Vine embroidery offer a number of classes to suit you :-

Saturday Classes

All classes run from 10am to 4pm and are run on a relaxed and informal basis. The cost of the class is £42.50 and includes a light lunch, tea and coffee. A £20 deposit is needed to guarantee a place, of which £10 is non refundable. There is an additional charge for materials. Classes are held in the spacious Vine Embroidery studio at Marsh Farm, Hilperton (Directions Printable / Online) just a few miles from Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge. Tuition is tailored to the needs of each individual so everyone gets the most from the class, begineers needn't be scared. It would be useful if you could bring along any sewing equipment you might have, particularly scissors, however do not worry too much about this if you don't have any.

Vine Embroidery Class
 
Stitch one of the 3 kings using regal colours, silk shading, chain stitch, appliquéd silk, and goldwork. Stitch on a dramatic dark silk background embellished with small stars. This piece won't be finished on the day but hopefully in time for Christmas!

Shadow work is a form of Whitework, worked on a sheer fabric. It is stitched on the reverse of the fabric to give a shadowy effect when seen from the front. It can be worked in colour if you wish!

Silk Shading

Work a Chinese style design of leaves and a small bird in silk shading, using vibrant colours on a red silk background. Gold Jap is used to edge the leaves and add a touch of glamour.

Learn a variety of Stumpwork techniques, such as needlelace and wrapped beads to create a cute orange tree. This project won't be finished on the day, but all the necessary techniques will be covered for you to finish it at home!

Silk Shading

Learn how to do Long and Short stitch and shade and shade two delicate sweet peas, as featured in Mary Hickmott's New Stitches magazine. This pretty design is worked on a silk dupion background, using Anchor stranded cotton.

Jacobean Crewel Embroidery is a historical style of hand embroidery mainly used in stately homes to embroiderer large hangings and curtains.
It is worked on linen twill, using fine Crewel wool. Traditional designs are very stylised and based on the tree of life.
You can either work a choice of motif/design supplied by the tutor or bring your own.
A variety of stitches may be learnt including long, short, chain, blanket, cretan, joined fly, grid and padded stiches plus french knots and bullion bars.

Dimensional

A new twist to traditional hand embroidery worked in stranded cotton and perle threads and based on Jacobean style motifs being both decorative and eye catching.
Involves felt padding, appliquéd silk, small beaded flowers, stitched leaves, wire edging and much more...
You can either work the teachers design or bring your own.

Weekly Embroidery Classes

These are on Wednesdays from 10am to 12noon, they will be restarting in September. £60 per 10 week term. Classes will be relaxed and informal and tailored to the students needs. Techniques including Gold work, Silk shading, Stumpwork, Crewelwork, Whitework and Blackwork can be covered. Students can work on projects that they have already begun or try something completely new.

PLEASE NOTE: These classes can become oversubscribed so payment in advance is necessary to secure your place.
